While not the biggest believer in the traditional form of microblogging, such as twitter, (Face it, nobody really cares what you’re doing) I think that the format is excellent for group communication. That’s exactly what Prologue is. While not exactly a blog theme, Prologue stretches WordPress into the right mold in a way only WordPress can be stretched.

Prologue allows users with posting ability, to post short messages to the board straight from the home page. Mesages can be viewed for the whole group, or by author or tag.

Prologue is available as open source (GPL) via svn. I haven’t figured out how to use the whole SVN thing, and I’m too lazy to copy the files one by one, but I’m dying to try it out, and I will once I figure SVN out.

First of all, I would like to apologize for not responding to all emails and comments regarding WPPA. I created WPPA in my spare time (which I don’t have much of) and providing support for WPPA would be a full time job. However, I do read all emails, and will take all your suggestions and issues into consideration when working on the next version of WPPA.

The next version of WPPA will also have many feature enhancements developed by Aaron D. Campbell. Thanks allot, Aaron!

Not anymore. I wrote a simple function that you can include in your themes that lets you customize the navigation output, fully customizing what goes before, after and between the pages.

All you need to do is copy the contents of w3l_tl_pages.php to the functions.php file of your WordPress theme, thencall the w3l_tl_pages() function in the place you want the site navigation to appear. The parameters are w3l_tl_pages('before', 'after', 'between')

The function will call only the top level pages, and order them by the menu order (which can be set for each page in the wp admin)

I must say, I was really impressed. Although this theme is not useful for any real site, It’s loads of fun to play around with. And it’s quite obvious that allot off time and effort have gone into coding this one. I’d give it 5 stars for creativity.

1. Make a copy of your index.php file. Name it blog.php
2. Open blog.php in a text editor
3. add the following to the top of the file:

4. Create a new static page in the WP admin area. On the right side, one of the options is “Page Template”, select “Blog”.
5. Navigate your browser to your new page. your blog should be there.

Edit: As of version 2.1, WordPress has this functionality built in, so there’s no need for hacks anymore. Just go to wp-admin -> Options – > Reading and you can set a static homepage and move your blog to an inner page.

The Problem: Some time ago, I noticed that all my blog comments, both on my blog and other blogs, is getting marked by Akismet as spam. At first I thought my email or name got blacklisted somehow, but after some testing, any comment with a @hotpop.com email gets filtered, so it’s not me.

If it’s not my email in particular that’s blacklisted, I’m not going to put to much energy in getting it removed, so I guess I just need to start using a different email for blog comments.
