Get ready to say goodbye to the last wire

Wires. They’re annoying. They get all tangled and if you ever need to move something around you need to spend allot of time figuring them out. The need for most wires has been eliminated with the introduction of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and WiFi. There was only one unsolved piece in the wire puzzle: the power cable. The need for the power cable will also soon be history. Researches at MIT are developing a new technology for wirelessly charging mobile devices, such as laptops, phones and PDA’s.

Imagine a future in which wireless power transfer is feasible: cell phones, household robots, mp3 players, laptop computers and other portable electronics capable of charging themselves without ever being plugged in, freeing us from that final, ubiquitous power wire. Some of these devices might not even need their bulky batteries to operate.

Imagine wireless charging points at every WiFi hotspot. I love the Idea…
